Our Process

Wheel Removal

We remove the wheels and, for caliper jobs, the calipers, right at our shop — no need to arrange your own tire shop. Tires are dismounted, TPMS sensors and hardware are set aside, and everything is labeled so the car goes back together exactly as it came apart.

Preparation

Old finish, corrosion, and curb-rash damage are stripped and blasted back to bare metal, and minor rash can be repaired before coating. Powder coating is only as good as the surface under it, so we never coat over damage or old paint — the substrate comes clean first.

Powder Application

The dry powder is applied electrostatically, which draws it evenly around spokes, barrels, and the hard-to-reach contours that spray paint misses. This is where powder earns its reputation: full, even coverage on complex wheel designs with no runs, drips, or thin spots.

Curing

Coated parts are baked in a curing oven, where the powder flows out and crosslinks into a single continuous shell. That bake is what gives powder its durability — the finish is chemically bonded and heat-set, not just dried on the surface like paint.

Reinstallation

Tires are remounted and balanced, TPMS sensors are reinstalled and checked, calipers go back on with the brakes properly bled, and torque specs are followed on every fastener. You get the car back finished and road-ready, not a stack of wheels in your trunk.

Frequently Asked Questions

How durable is powder coating?

Powder coating is roughly 2-3 times more durable than paint because it's a baked, crosslinked shell rather than a sprayed film. It resists chips, brake dust etching, and the harsh chemicals in wheel cleaners. Normal washing is all the maintenance it needs — no waxing, no touch-up bottles in the glovebox.

Can you powder coat any wheel?

Most alloy wheels coat beautifully. Chrome-plated wheels need the plating stripped first, which adds cost, and some replica wheels with questionable casting quality aren't worth coating — we'll tell you either way when we see them. Curb rash and minor damage can usually be repaired as part of the prep.

What colors are available?

Hundreds — far beyond what rattle-can or even professional wet paint offers off the shelf: metallics, candy translucents, textures, and matte or gloss clears over any of them. The most popular requests in our shop are satin black, gloss black, bronze, and caliper colors matched to a wrap accent.

How long is the car without its wheels?

Plan on 2-3 days. Stripping, blasting, coating, and curing each take real time, and rushing prep is how coatings fail. If the car can't sit that long, ask about scheduling around a second set of wheels — some clients drop wheels off and keep driving.

Can you do just the calipers?

Yes — caliper-only jobs are common, especially matched to a new wrap. We use high-temperature powder formulated for braking heat, remove the calipers rather than masking around them, and bleed the brakes properly on reinstallation. Painted-in-place calipers with brush marks are exactly what we're trying to save you from.
